Several countries are currently bidding to have the headquarters of the EMA, the European Medicines Agency, located in their country. This is also true of Denmark. The government has listed five good reasons why the EMA should be placed in Copenhagen: World-class research environment Innovative and vibrant life science environment Strong focus on patient safety Efficient infrastructure High quality of life/liveability Currently, the Danish Medicines Agency is deeply involved in the EMA's work. Pharmadanmark recently interviewed Doris Stenver, Chief Medicines Officer at the Danish Medicines Agency, on the strengths of the common European medicines agency. She points to a better allocation of medical scientific resources, robust quality assurance and a higher degree of knowledge sharing. Not to mention improved patient safety for more people. “Development, approval and supervision of medicinal products are such complex and stringently regulated disciplines that it is almost impossible for a single country to possess the most qualified experts in every area. That´s why cross-border cooperation is absolutely crucial,” says Doris Stenver.
