Understand your notice period

When you resign, you must know your notice period. It is stated in your employment contract or collective agreement.

If you are a salaried employee, your notice period follows the Danish Salaried Employees Act. Typically, this means one month’s notice to the end of a month after the probation period.

For example: If you resign in February, your employment ends at the end of March.

During the first three months, your contract may include a probation period with a shorter notice period – typically 14 days or less. The notice must expire within the probation period to be valid.

Some contracts include extended mutual notice periods. This may affect when you can start a new job.

Your notice period can vary, so always check your terms or contact us if you are unsure.

How to resign correctly

Your resignation should always be in writing so you have documentation. Send it by email and ask for confirmation of receipt.

You can also deliver it in person, but make sure you have proof that it was submitted on time.

We also recommend informing your manager in person before submitting your resignation.

Your resignation does not need to be long, but it must be clear and include:

  • You as the sender

  • The date of resignation

  • A clear statement that you are resigning

You do not need to provide a reason. If you choose to do so, we recommend discussing it verbally to avoid misunderstandings.

Employment terms or share options?

If your employment includes clauses such as non-compete or customer clauses, we recommend speaking to a Pharmadanmark adviser. These can significantly affect your future job opportunities and may include compensation.

If you have share options or similar arrangements, it is important to seek legal advice. Most share agreements change when you resign, which can have significant financial consequences depending on your terms.

Starting a new job?

Only resign from your current job once you have a final, signed contract with your new employer. A verbal offer is not always sufficient.

Before signing a new contract, we recommend contacting our legal advisers for a contract review. They have extensive experience with employment contracts in the Life Science industry.

We offer:

  • Review of your employment contract

  • Assessment of salary and terms

  • Advice on starting your new role and well-being
