Get Support for Continuing Education Through a Competence Fund

Do you want to develop your professional skills and strengthen your career? If you work in the public sector, you may be eligible for financial support for continuing or further education through one of Denmark’s three competence funds.

What is a competence fund?

A competence fund is a valuable opportunity to cover the costs of courses, diploma programmes, or master’s degrees.

  • If you're employed by a region or a municipality, you can apply for up to DKK 30,000 in support—or DKK 50,000 if you're pursuing a master's degree.
  • If you're a state employee, other terms and limits apply, but the opportunities are still strong.

Expand your competences

The Regional Competence Fund

The Regional Competence Fund offers up to DKK 30,000 in support –
and up to DKK 50,000 for master’s programmes.
Medical secretaries eligible under the special initiative can receive full funding for a Healthcare Communicator diploma or similar qualifying education.

The Municipal Competence Fund

To receive funding from the Municipal Competence Fund, you must be employed by a municipality and covered by a collective agreement between Local Government Denmark (KL) and one of the participating trade unions.

The State Competence Fund

The State Competence Fund is your opportunity to develop skills for the future.The fund was established as part of the collective agreement between the state and employee organizations – and it’s here for you as a public sector employee. 

How Do I Apply?

Although your employer submits the application, it’s up to you to take the initiative.
You’ll need a clear plan for what you want to learn—and how it strengthens your skills for your current or future role.

Be clear about your goals and be ready to explain why this specific education is relevant.
