What you’re allowed to do during sickness
You must inform us if your illness prevents you from attending in person. While on sick leave, you’re not confined to your home—as long as your activities don't worsen your condition:
You may:
- Visit a summer house, but you should avoid leaving the country without prior agreement with your municipality and employer.
- Go grocery shopping
- Pick up or drop off your children
You must not:
- Engage in activities that delay recovery (e.g., heavy lifting if you have back pain)
Follow your doctor’s advice. Light exercise can often help in cases of stress-related sickness.
The 120-Day Rule and termination
Some contracts include a special clause related to extended sickness:
- If you’ve received salary during sickness for 120 days within 12 months, you may be terminated with one month's notice
- This termination must occur while you’re still sick
This is a complex rule. If it applies to you, we strongly recommend contacting Pharmadanmark’s legal team.
Sickness and vacation
Being sick prevents you from taking vacation. If you want to travel during your sick leave:
- Your doctor must confirm that travel won’t worsen your health
- Your municipality must register you as temporarily fit for work
- You must coordinate with your doctor, employer, and local authority
You can only take vacation once all steps are in place.
When your child is sick
If your child becomes acutely ill, you may be entitled to leave on the first day of their sickness:
- This does not apply to outpatient appointments
- Use vacation time or compensatory time off for such cases
Check your contract or collective agreement for the exact terms.
