Mass layoff at Ferring Pharmaceuticals

Before the autumn break, Ferring Pharmaceuticals announced a mass layoff, stating that around 100 redundancies were expected. This was followed by the legally required process in which management negotiated with employee representatives. Such negotiations can lead in many directions, but often result in an agreement which aims to ensure that everyone moves forward in the best possible way — both the employees who remain and those who leave the company.

Pharmadanmark supported the employee representatives throughout these unfamiliar circumstances, resulting in a reasonable package for the employees who will not continue at Ferring. We also focused on ensuring a short and transparent process, and during the negotiations, management found ways to reduce the number of redundancies from around 100 to approximately 90.

“It has been a constructive process, and our experience is that both sides have listened to each other. It is never an easy situation for a company, but the process itself means a great deal to the employees. That is why we put strong emphasis on clarity, openness and concise procedures, and mutual understanding. The negotiations at Ferring are a good example of this,” says Casper Gad, Head of Legal at Pharmadanmark.
