Get back on track after the summer holidays

The transition from holiday mode to everyday work life

The first day back at work after the holidays can feel like trying to start an engine that hasn’t run for weeks. Here is advice for you on how to get back on track after a long summer holiday.
From holiday to a normal weekday

The first day back at work after the holidays can feel like trying to start an engine that hasn’t run for weeks. You can’t – and shouldn’t – expect to be fully efficient right away. The transition from holiday mode to everyday life can seem overwhelming, and many find themselves thinking: “Where do I even start?” That feeling is completely normal, and you’re definitely not alone – many experience it, even if they rarely say it out loud.

  1. Prioritize your tasks

  2. Make a plan for the first few days
Get an overview of your tasks, meetings, and any changes in the organization. This will give you control over your start.

  3. Don’t forget to be social
Share holiday highlights with your colleagues. Human connection creates a sense of community and makes the transition easier.

Is your lack of motivation about more than just getting started?
Holidays aren’t just for relaxation. They also offer a mental break that can spark new thoughts. While some people return to work with renewed enthusiasm, others feel unsettled or the feeling ofcareer stagnation’ . Questions may start to surface: “Am I truly happy in my current work life?” “Does what I’m doing align with my values?”

If this sounds familiar, use the post-holiday period to reflect on your career. It doesn’t have to mean a drastic change, but it could be the beginning of a new adventure.
