Rumors of a major round of layoffs at Novo Nordisk have been circulating for some time – and now, unfortunately, they have become reality.
On Wednesday, the company announced that 9,000 positions will be cut worldwide, including 5,000 in Denmark.
This is a very high number, and sadly higher than we had hoped. The situation is difficult, and right now it is extremely uncertain and unsettling to be employed at Novo Nordisk.
It is still unclear who will be laid off. The company has stated that it may take months before all affected employees are notified.
Pharmadanmark believes this is far too long. Employees should not be left waiting. They deserve clarity – sooner rather than later.
Uncertainty among our members
At Pharmadanmark, we clearly sense that our members are worried.
Our legal advisors and career counselors are ready to support anyone affected by the situation. We know the Life Science industry inside out, and we are well prepared.
Right now, many members are reaching out for guidance. Some of the most common questions are:
- What happens if I am selected for redundancy?
- I’m on parental leave and feel particularly vulnerable – am I?
- I’ve heard about voluntary resignation – what does that mean for me?
- I feel unsafe in this situation and just want to move on – what should I do?
- What is PDA, and how do I qualify?
Goodbye to remote work
On Thursday, Novo Nordisk also announced that all remote work will be discontinued. Starting in the new year, all employees will be required to work from the office every day of the week.
Naturally, many of our members are concerned about what this means for them. For those who have built their lives around the flexibility of working from home, this is a major shift.
Although the company has the right to decide where employees work, we at Pharmadanmark believe this is the wrong direction. Flexibility is highly valued and plays a key role in ensuring a healthy work-life balance. Tightening these rules is out of touch with today’s needs and an unnecessary step backwards.
